This course introduces students to information and communication technology in a business environment and builds a foundation of digital literacy skills necessary for success in a technologically driven society. Students will develop word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, presentation software, and website design skills.Throughout the course, there is an emphasis on digital literacy, effective electronic research and communication skills, and current issues related to the impact of information and communication technology.

The unit is the beginning of the student’s journey into information and communication technology in the business world. Students will investigate computer components and key terms, whilst developing their investigation and organisation skills. This unit gives the student’s a chance to explore the different software that is commonly used in the business world. Students will use word processing software to create common business documents. 3. Unit 3: Design Software | ||
In the unit, the students have the opportunity to be creative. They will use presentation software to create and deliver effective presentations. Use desktop publishing software to create publications. 4. Unit 4: Ethics and Issues in ICT | ||
In this unit, students will focus on the legal, social, and ethical issues relating to information and communication technology, and privacy and security issues. This unit helps the students prepare for the culminating project. They will have the opportunity to edit and revise business documents and communications. This course is organized into a semester format. Lessons and activities will be presented to students via the internet. Synchronous lessons will be provided through live online teaching and lessons, and student-to-student discussion forums.
A variety of strategies will be used in the online delivery of this course. Instructional strategies will include but are not limited to:
Learning goals will be discussed at the beginning of each assignment and success criteria be provided to students. The success criteria are used to develop the assessment tools in this course, including rubrics and checklists.
A variety of assessment and evaluation methods, strategies and tools are required as appropriate to the expectation being assessed. These include diagnostic, formative and summative within the course and within each unit. We strictly follow the Ministry of Education’s Growing Success document.
