Descripción del curso

This course enables students to further develop the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices now and lead healthy, active lives in the future. Through participation in a wide range of physical activities, students develop knowledge and skills related to movement competence and personal fitness that provide a foundation for active living. Students also acquire an understanding of the factors and skills that contribute to healthy development and learn how their own well-being is affected by, and affects, the world around them. Students build their sense of self, learn to interact positively with others, and develop their ability to think critically and creatively.

Expectativas generales

Al final de este curso, los estudiantes desarrollan las siguientes habilidades en estas diferentes áreas:

1. Living Skills
1.1Demonstrate personal and interpersonal skills and the use of critical and creative thinking processes as they acquire knowledge and skills in connection with the expectations in the Active Living, Movement Competence, and Healthy Living strands for this grade.
2. Active Living
2.1Active Participation. Participate actively and regularly in a wide variety of physical activities, and demonstrate an understanding of factors that can influence and support their participation in physical activity now and throughout their lives;
2.2Physical Fitness. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of being physically active, and apply physical fitness concepts and practices that contribute to healthy, active living;
2.3Safety. Demonstrate responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others as they participate in physical activities.
3. MOVEMENT COMPETENCE: SKILLS, CONCEPTS, AND STRATEGIES
3.1Movement Skills and Concepts. Perform movement skills, demonstrating an understanding of the basic requirements of the skills and applying movement concepts as appropriate, as they engage in a variety of physical activities;
3.2Movement Strategies. Apply movement strategies appropriately, demonstrating an understanding of the components of a variety of physical activities, in order to enhance their ability to participate successfully in those activities.
4. HEALTHY LIVING
4.1Understanding Health Concepts: Demonstrate an understanding of factors that contribute to healthy development;
4.2Making Healthy Choices: Demonstrate the ability to apply health knowledge and living skills to make reasoned decisions and take appropriate actions relating to their personal health and well-being;
4.3Making Connections for Healthy Living: Demonstrate the ability to make connections that relate to health and well-being – how their choices and behaviours affect both themselves and others, and how factors in the world around them affect their own and others’ health and well-being.

1. Unit 1: Fitness and Nutrition

In this unit, students will develop an understanding of the importance of being physically active. They will evaluate the effectiveness of various fitness programs and create a plan specific to their own personal physical activity and fitness goals. Students will also examine the factors that influence food and drink choices and how those factors play a role in their personal nutritional choices.

2. Unit 2: Fitness and Safety

In this unit,students will develop skills to help them respond to the various challenges they encounter as they participate in physical activities. Students will evaluate and apply procedures that maximize their safety, and that of others when performing different activities. Students will also identify resources that can be of assistance in emergency situations related to physical activity.

3. Unit 3: Personal Safety and Wellness

In this unit, students will develop their understanding of factors that enhance mental health, and emotional and spiritual well-being. They will analyze situations that can arise, and strategies that can be used to reduce risks involving conflict, and health and safety risks in their personal environment.

4. Unit 4: Substance Use and Addictions

This unit will provide students with the opportunity to understand the impact of substance use and addictive behaviours on a person’s health and well-being. They will investigate the impact of these issues locally, nationally, and internationally.

This unit will develop students’ understanding of healthy relationships. They will focus on communication, decision making and healthy sexuality.

Estrategias de enseñanza y aprendizaje

This course is organized into a semester format. Lessons and activities will be presented to students via the internet. Synchronous lessons will be provided through live online teaching and lessons, and student-to-student discussion forums. 

A variety of strategies will be used in the online delivery of this course. Instructional strategies will include but are not limited to: 

  • Teacher-directed lessons 
  • Student-led lessons 
  • Guiado - Conferencias 
  • Aprendizaje cooperativo 
  • Investigación independiente 
  • Aprendizaje entre iguales 
  • Presentaciones multimedia 

Learning goals will be discussed at the beginning of each assignment and success criteria be provided to students. The success criteria are used to develop the assessment tools in this course, including rubrics and checklists.

Estrategias de evaluación del rendimiento de los estudiantes

A variety of assessment and evaluation methods, strategies and tools are required as appropriate to the expectation being assessed. These include diagnostic, formative and summative within the course and within each unit. We strictly follow the Ministry of Education’s Growing Success document. 

La evaluación PARA EL APRENDIZAJE y la evaluación COMO APRENDIZAJE se obtienen a través de diversos medios, entre los que se incluyen los siguientes:

Las pruebas de los logros de los alumnos (evaluación DEL aprendizaje) se recogen a través de observaciones continuas del trabajo más consistente, teniendo en cuenta el trabajo más reciente de diversas fuentes. 

La evaluación en este curso se basará en las expectativas del plan de estudios provincial de Ontario. Los estudiantes dispondrán de numerosas y variadas oportunidades para demostrar todo el alcance de sus logros. Las categorías de evaluación y los desgloses son los siguientes:

La nota final se determinará de la siguiente manera: 

  • Term Work 80% 
    • Participation 30%

Consideración para la planificación de programas

A los alumnos con necesidades especiales y a los estudiantes de inglés como lengua extranjera se les proporcionarán adaptaciones, como tiempo adicional, tecnología de apoyo y escriba cuando esté disponible. Los profesores que planifican un programa en esta asignatura se esfuerzan por tener en cuenta las consideraciones para la planificación del programa que se alinean con la política y las iniciativas del Ministerio de Educación de Ontario en una serie de áreas importantes.
